When jewellery designer Vika Mayzel was walking around Designblok with her husband, a piece of furniture that they had been dreaming of for a long time caught their eye. Minimalist, airy and yet unusual. This dream come true was our metal floor shelf #1210 in grey. A few days later, it was in their living room.

"We knew immediately that this shelf belonged in our living room."

Vika is very familiar with metal and knows all its advantages thanks to her profession. But what attracted her to our shelving unit was that it didn't look like metal at first glance. The photographer and I visited her to see how such a seemingly cold piece of furniture looks in a warm family environment.

How did you discover Fleysen, and why did you choose it?

My husband and I discovered the Fleysen brand at Designblok and knew this bookcase belonged in our living room. It was what we had been looking for for a long time - minimalistic and interesting.

Did the fact that the product is FSC-certified or that it is easily recyclable play a role in your choice?

I don't care about certificates, but I like metal. As a jewellery designer, I work with it and use recycling in my work. So I like the idea of metal furniture. With this shelf, my husband and I were also interested in the fact that the metal here doesn't look so plain, and you can't really tell at first glance, which is probably due to the workmanship and the quality of the paintwork.

For the rack to be subtle yet secure, it needs to be bolted to the wall. Was that a problem for you? And how did you find the overall assembly?

Installation was easy, and we had much fun with the kids. At the same time, we're used to drilling everything just for the kids' safety, so I don't see that as a problem.

Jewellery designer Vika Mayzel hails from Israel, where she graduated from Shenkar College of Design and Engineering. Her work is often inspired by fine art. She currently lives with her family in Prague, where you can also visit her studio in Vinohrady.

We approached Vika for the first episode of the series It's Home!, in which we show you Fleysen furniture in our customers' interiors. From our offer she chose the metal standing shelf #1210.
